The groundbreaking initiative is now celebrating its seventh year of existence and continues to make a positive impact for the development of Para sport in Canada.

The Paralympic Foundation of Canada (PFC) has achieved a groundbreaking milestone, raising over $2 million through its signature fundraiser event series, the ParaTough Cup. This achievement marks a significant step in the Foundation’s mission to support the growth and development of Para sport across the country.

The ParaTough Cup is more than just a fundraiser, it is an immersive experience that provides competitors with a firsthand understanding of the strength, skill, and athletic brilliance required by Canada’s Paralympians and elite Para athletes.

“The success of the ParaTough Cup is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our partners and their desire to play a meaningful role in the development of Para sport in Canada. By raising over $2 million, we are ensuring that Canada’s next generation of Para athletes have the support they need to compete at the highest level and continue to inspire Canadians from coast to coast,” Dean Brokop, Executive Director of the Paralympic Foundation of Canada said.

For seven seasons now, the ParaTough Cup has left a lasting impression on participants, turning many of them into passionate ambassadors for the Paralympic Movement. The event not only introduces them to the world of Para sport, but also raises crucial funds to remove barriers to sport participation for people with disabilities.

“We are so grateful to everyone who has donated, to all the participants raising money, and to our title sponsors for their continued support. We look forward to many more great seasons to come,” Brokop added.

Held in four major Canadian cities, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, and Toronto, the ParaTough Cup brings together teams from corporate partners and fundraisers, who compete for the title of ParaTough Cup champions. Teams participate in the Paralympic sports of wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, and Para ice hockey. They also get the chance to hear directly from Canada’s top Para athletes in fireside chats, learning more about the dedication and perseverance it takes to compete at the highest level.

The funds raised through the ParaTough Cup directly support the IGNITE campaign, which helps both current and aspiring Canadian Para athletes by providing them with the resources and opportunities they need to reach their full potential.

“With every dollar raised, the ParaTough Cup helps pave the way for Canadian athletes with disabilities to participate in Para sport,” said Jim Westlake, Chairperson of the Paralympic Foundation of Canada. “The teams that participate do not just fundraise, they experience Para sport firsthand, gaining a real appreciation for the hard work it takes to represent Canada. It is a truly special event, and we are so thankful for the support that has allowed us to surpass the $2 million mark.”

As the ParaTough Cup continues to grow each season, it has become a cornerstone of the Paralympic Foundation of Canada’s mission to ensure that Para sport thrives across the country. The funds raised from this year’s events will help build a brighter, more inclusive future for Canadian Para sport, a future where Canadians with a disability are offered ample opportunities to experience the transformative power of sport.
