PARIS- Just 24 hours after winning the Silver medal on Saturday in the Women’s va’a single 200m, Brianna Hennessy finished fourth in the Women’s kayak single 200m final with a time of 54.47, just 1.34 seconds out of medal contention.

Hennessy qualified for the final by placing first in her semifinal race with a time of 57.00 seconds, and while she did manage to increase her pace in the final by 2.53 seconds, it wasn’t enough to keep up with the leaders in the final race of the Games for the Ottawa canoeist.

The Gold medal went to Katherine Wollermann from Chile, as she set a new Paralympic Games record time of 51.95 seconds. Maryna Mazhula of Ukraine won Silver with a time of 52.87, and Germany’s Edina Mueller finished in third with a time of 53.13 to win the Bronze.

Later, Mathieu St-Pierre qualified for the Men’s va’a single 200M VL2 final with a semifinal time of 55.74 seconds.

The 36-year-old from Shawinigan also improved on his time in the final, finishing in 54.37 seconds, beating his earlier time by 1.37 seconds.

However, St-Pierre would finish in sixth place, with Gold going to Fernando Rufino de Paulo from Brazil, who set a Paralympic Games record with a time of 50.47 seconds. Silver went to Igor Alex Tofalini, also from Brazil (51.78) and Bronze was won by Blake Haxton of the U.S.
