Five Paralympic medallists inducted into Sailing Hall of Fame

Three more medallists from the 1996 demo event also inducted

KINGSTON, Ont. – Canada’s great history in Paralympic sailing is being honoured.

Sail Canada has announced that five official Paralympic Games medallists in the sport will be inducted into the Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame in a special event next month in Vancouver.

A crew from the 1996 Paralympic Games, at which Para sailing was a demonstration event, was also inducted. Para sailing was an official Paralympic sport from 2000 to 2016.

The inductees are:

John McRoberts and Jackie Gay of Victoria, silver medallists in Skud at the 2016 Rio Games.

Stacie Louttit of Victoria, who teamed with McRoberts for bronze at the 2008 Beijing Games.

Brian MacDonald and the late David Williams of Vancouver, bronze medallists in Sonar at the 2000 Sydney Games.

And the crew comprised of David Cook and Kirk Westergaard of Victoria and Ken Kelly of Moose Jaw, Sask., silver medallists in the 1996 Sonar demonstration event in Atlanta.

Sailing fans can now buy tickets for the 2024 induction ceremony to be held at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club on Saturday October 5, 2024.
