Canada wraps up IPC Para nordic World Cup with seven medals

OBBERIED, Germany – Canada didn’t reach the podium on the last day of competition at a Para nordic World Cup event on Sunday but that didn’t dampen an impressive seven-medal performance at the week long event.

With the Paralympic Winter Games in PyeongChang just over a month away, the Canadians skiers collected two gold, three silver and two bronze.

Both gold medals were earned by 10-time Paralympic champion Brian McKeever of Canmore, Alta. Along with his guide Graham Nishikawa of Whitehorse they placed first in the men’s middle distance and sprint cross-country skiing events for visually impaired.

McKeever also added a silver in the long distance race.

Canada’s other two silver medals were earned by Mark Arendz of Hartsville, P.E.I., in the men’s standing middle distance cross country and biathlon races.

Bronze medallists were Collin Cameron of Sudbury, Ont., in the men’s sitting cross country sprint and Emily Young of Vancouver in the women’s standing cross country middle distance.
