CORTINA, Italy – Skip Mark Ideson nailed two perfect nose hits in the eighth and final end to score three and give Canada a dramatic 6-5 victory over Sweden Tuesday night in wheelchair curling action at the Paralympic Winter Games.

With the victory, Canada is atop the 10-country preliminary round standings with a perfect 6-0 record.

It was a second big victory on the day for Canada after defeating reigning Games and world champion China 9-4 on Tuesday morning.

China beat Latvia 9-5 in the evening to move to 5-1 and South Korea and Sweden are tied for third at 4-2.

‘’It was a tough game,’’ said Ideson, at his fourth Games, the last three as skip. ‘’Sweden is an incredible team. They played very well and they put pressure on us the whole game. “

The Canadians squandered a 3-0 lead as Sweden scored once in the fifth and sixth and stole three more in the seventh to lead 5-3.

“We’re working together and relying on each other to figure out the paths, figure out the rocks,” said Ideson. “We’re building momentum and this win puts us in a good position.”

Canada’s next game is Wednesday night against Slovakia (3-3).
