Brent Lakatos wins fourth silver medal at Tokyo 2020

Brent Lakatos collected his fourth silver medal at the 2020 Paralympic Games on Thursday with a second place finish in the men’s T53 800m wheelchair race.

With a driving rain pouring down, Pongsakorn Paeyo of Thailand won his third gold in Tokyo clocking a Games record one minute and 36.07 seconds. Lakatos, the world record holder in the event couldn’t maintain his lead after the first lap and followed in 1:36.62. Pierre Fairbank of France was third in 1:39.67.

For Lakatos it was his 11th career medal in five Paralympic Games appearances. He matches his four-medal total from Rio in 2016. It’s also his third Paralympic medal in the 800m. He was third in Rio and second in London in 2012.

Canada now has 18 medals with three gold, 10 silver and five bronze which includes six in Para athletics.
