We imagine a future where Canadians with a disability are offered ample opportunities to experience the transformative power of sport. We strive to support diverse champions that inspire belief in the potential for greatness, thereby shaping communities across Canada into healthy and inclusive spaces where every person with a disability feels a sense of belonging and inclusion.

Together, we will IGNITE Change Through Sport.

Paralympic System Development

To ensure a sustainable Paralympic sport system and achieve podium success, we invest in innovative Para sport development programs that break down barriers, fill system gaps, enhance coaching, recruit new athletes, and expand competitive opportunities.

Next Generation Athlete Program

Canada’s Next Generation athlete development programming supports Paralympic hopefuls with the potential to succeed nationally and internationally by providing funding — matched annually up to $1 million by the Government of Canada — for coaching development, access to specialized training environments, health and wellness services, and sport science programming.

Adapted Equipment

The Paralympic Foundation of Canada provides funding to help overcome one of the primary barriers to Para sport participation—the high cost of adaptive sport equipment, which can be up to ten times more expensive than equipment for able-bodied athletes—by supporting the unique equipment needs of Para athletes at all levels.

Performance Recognition Equity

Beginning at Paris 2024, the Paralympic Foundation of Canada established a fund to ensure that Canadian Paralympians receive the same level of financial recognition for medal performances at the Paralympic Games as their Olympic counterparts, addressing a historical gap in support where such recognition was previously unavailable.

Enhanced Excellence

Enhanced Excellence funding supports high-performing athletes on their journey to the Paralympic Games. It is directed towards coaching and technical leadership, training and competitions, innovative sports science and sport medical support, and organizational capacity to manage an effective high-performance program.

Games Performance Planning

The Games Performance Planning Fund (GPPF) provides funding to National Sport Organizations to address areas of greatest needs in achieving their Games performance plan. This includes pre-Games staging and site visits for the purpose of inspection, sourcing, and scouting; familiarization activities with athletes and staff including training camps and test events; as well as additional projects required by the National Sport Organization.

Classification

As the cornerstone of the Paralympic movement, classification determines athlete eligibility and competition groupings, and funding in this area supports the integrity and credibility of sport by enabling athlete participation in classification events, training classifiers in Canada, and hosting international classifier panels at Canadian competitions.

A group of enthusiastic Canadian fans, dressed in red and waving Canadian flags, cheer loudly in the stands for Canadian Paralympian Amanda Rummery at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. One fan captures the moment on a phone, while others raise their fists in excitement, showing their pride and support.
