At 24, James Dunn is already a two-time Paralympian. He cracked the 2018 Games line -up at age 17 becoming the youngest player in Hockey Canada history to represent the red and white at the Paralympics
Since those Games he’s been a national team fixture competing at every world championship including the 2024 edition at which Canada won the gold medal.
At the 2025 worlds in Buffalo, Dunn was third in team scoring with five goals and four assists and averaged more than a point a game in 2024 with three goals and three assists in five games.
Dunn’s path to the national team is even more remarkable given his health journey. He was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in 2012 at age 11, leading to the amputation of his right leg.
He took up Para ice hockey in 2013 but later that year, doctors found a tumor near his lung that required chemotherapy and surgery.
Even a second battle with cancer couldn’t derail his passion for the sport. A year later he joined the London Blizzard Sledge Hockey Club and by age 15 he was on the national team.
He was introduced to the sport by national team teammate Tyler McGregor who lost his leg to cancer at 15-years-old.
