Brieann Baldock helped Canada win gold in Women’s Goalball at the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games, ensuring the nation earned a berth for the Paris 2024 Paralympics. In June 2024, Brieann was nominated for the Paris Games, which will be her second Paralympics.
Born with Oculocutaneous Albinism and legally blind since birth, Brieann has always had a passion for sports and staying active. Despite her visual impairment, she played sports with able-bodied athletes throughout childhood. At 16, Brieann discovered goalball at an Alberta Sports and Recreation Association for the Blind (ASRAB) event, and she was instantly captivated. That same winter, she also tried blind hockey and developed a love for it.
Brieann had previously served as an alternate on the 2018 World Championship team and the 2019 Parapan American Games team, making her Paralympic debut in Tokyo in 2020. She played a significant role in helping Canada achieve fourth place at the 2021 World Championships.
Brieann’s journey to the Tokyo Paralympics was bolstered by her strong performance at the 2019 Vancouver Grand Slam Tournament and dedication to training during the pandemic. She debuted on the national team in 2017 at the Pan Am Goalball Championships, leading Canada to gold and qualifying for the 2018 World Championships.
Currently residing in Edmonton, Brieann works as an accessibility advisor at Athabasca University while completing her Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education. She holds certificates in special needs teaching and childcare from McEwen College. Her mother, Kelly Baldock, is the president of the Alberta Society for the Visually Impaired. Brieann credits ASRAB for providing opportunities that have allowed her to excel in recreational activities to an elite athletic level.
