Bianca Borgella, a Canadian visually impaired sprinter, has been selected to represent Canada at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, marking her debut at the Paralympic Games. Competing in the T13 classification for athletes with visual impairments, Borgella has quickly risen to prominence in the world of Para athletics since she began competing in 2021.
Borgella made a significant impact at the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships in Paris, where she won silver in the T13 200m with a time of 25.00 seconds and bronze in the T13 100m with a personal best of 12.16 seconds. These performances established her as one of Canada’s leading Para athletes and secured her a spot in the upcoming Paralympic Games.
Born with Leber congenital amaurosis, a rare inherited eye disorder that causes severe vision loss, Borgella has defied expectations through her athletic achievements. She is currently studying neuroscience at the University of Ottawa and trains with the Ottawa Lions Track and Field Club.
