Santiago 2023 Day 8 Recap + Day 9 Preview: Boccia gold highlights seven-medal penultimate day
SANTIAGO – A gold medal from Iulian Ciobanu and Alison Levine in boccia highlighted a seven-medal day for Canada at the Santiago 2023 Parapan Am Games on Saturday.
Additional podiums were achieved in boccia, Para badminton, wheelchair basketball, and Para athletics as the Games heads into its final day.
Only two sports will be in action to close out Santiago 2023 on Sunday – Para road cycling and Para badminton.

Canada’s Olivia Meier wins bronze in Para badminton at 2023 Parapan American Games
SANTIAGO – Olivia Meier of Winnipeg won the bronze medal on Saturday in the women’s SL4 standing category in Para badminton while William Roussy of Maria, Que. advanced to the gold medal game in men’s SL6 singles at the 2023 Parapan American Games.
Meier, a second-year law student at the University of Ottawa, defeated Jenny Ventocilla of Peru 21-13, 21-18 to step on the podium for a second straight Parapan Ams. She took silver in 2019.

SANTIAGO – The penultimate day of competition at the Santiago 2023 Parapan Am Games has arrived, and Canada is competing in five sports, with medal opportunities in wheelchair basketball, Para athletics, boccia, and Para badminton.

SANTIAGO – Canada is going to the Paralympic Games in women’s goalball.
For the second straight game, Emma Reinke notched a hat trick including two goals on penalty shots as Canada defeated the United States 4-3 in an intense gold medal match at the 2023 Parapan American Games.
It’s do or die for Canada’s men’s wheelchair basketball team at Parapan Am Games
SANTIAGO – For Pat Anderson, Canada’s superstar wheelchair basketball player, it’s somewhat déjà vu all over again.
Back in 2011, Canada’s men’s team with Anderson lost its semifinal at the Parapan Ams in Guadalajara, Mexico. But it rebounded to beat the host country to win the bronze. That year, Canada already had its Paralympic berth in its pocket from the 2010 worlds.
In 2023 that’s not the case.

SANTIAGO – As the Santiago 2023 Parapan Am Games heads into its final weekend, Canada is set for at least three medals on Friday with the country’s women’s teams in the wheelchair basketball and goalball gold medal games, and Rob Shaw playing for a wheelchair tennis title.
Play continues in boccia and Para badminton, while medals are on the table for Canada in Para athletics, Para swimming, and Para track cycling.

SANTIAGO – The Canadian national anthem has now been heard five times at the Santiago 2023 Parapan Am Games, as Anthony Bouchard claimed gold in wheelchair racing on Thursday with Canada increasing its podium total to 29. Medals were won in Para athletics, Para cycling, wheelchair rugby, and Para swimming, while Canada also advanced into gold medal games in women’s wheelchair basketball, women’s goalball, and quad wheelchair tennis.

Canada advances to gold medal game in women’s goalball at Parapan American Games
SANTIAGO – Emma Reinke notched a hat trick to lead Canada to a 4-2 victory over two-time defending champions Brazil in the women’s goalball semifinals Thursday at the Parapan American Games.
With the victory, Canada advances to the gold medal game for the first time at the Parapan Ams. It also now has an opportunity to clinch a berth at the 2024 Paralympic Games if it can beat the USA in the gold medal final Friday.
The Americans beat Argentina 8-1 in the other semi.
