Stephanie Chan wins Canada’s first medal at 2023 Parapan American Games

SANTIAGO – Stephanie Chan of Vancouver collected her sixth career Parapan Am Games medal on Saturday earning a bronze in the women’s singles S6-7 combined class in Para table tennis.

Chan, Canada's oldest athlete at 66, lost her semifinal match to arch-rival Giselle Munoz of Spain 11-1, 11-4, 11-3. The 39-year-old Munoz, like Chan, has medalled in the event at the last four Games.

Stephanie Chan advances to women’s singles semifinal at 2023 Parapan American Games

SANTIAGO – Stephanie Chan of Vancouver won a five-set thriller in preliminary round action Friday to advance to the semifinals in women’s singles at the 2023 Parapan American Games.

The 66-year-old Chan, who will undergo heart surgery after the Games, defeated 17-year-old Kristel Morales of Costa Rica in comeback style 11-4, 9-11, 10-12, 11-6, 11-6. Chan finishes the prelims in the women’s S6-7 combined class with a win and a loss for second spot in her pool.

Canada qualifies for the Paralympic Games in women’s sitting volleyball

CAIRO (Volleyball Canada) -   Canada won its semifinal match on Friday at 2023 WPV Sitting Volleyball World Cup and as the highest ranked team yet to qualify for the 2024 Paralympic Games, Canada has earned the women’s berth from this tournament.

Despite a last-ditch comeback attempt by its opponent, Canada beat Germany 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-23). Canada is undefeated at this World Cup tournament with one match to go.

Tough times don’t deter Stephanie Chan to compete at Parapan American Games

SANTIAGO – Since the last Parapan Am Games in 2019, Canada’s top Para table tennis player Stephanie Chan has withstood the toughest challenges of life.

The multiple Games medallist, including gold at Toronto 2015, was back in action Thursday at the 2023 Parapan Ams as table tennis got underway a day early with the Opening Ceremony set for Friday evening.

SANTIAGO – As salsa music pumped in the background Tuesday evening and almost everyone seemed in a celebration mood at the Athletes’ Village Welcoming Ceremony, Canada’s men’s and women’s goalball teams were mingling amongst themselves.

There were no fist pumps, cheering, only polite applause.

Their focus was palpable.

Canada’s CP Football team enters Parapan Am Games on a high

SANTIAGO – It should be a confident Canadian CP Football squad that hits the field on Saturday at the Estadio Bicentenario Municipal de La Florida in its opening preliminary round match against Venezuela.

Team Canada made significant inroads at last year’s World Cup in Salou, Spain, equaling its best ever result with a ninth-place finish. That performance has the team believing it can reach the podium at the Games for the first time since 2007.
