Past Games show Parapan Ams important step for Canadian swimmers

The Parapan American Games have shown to be an important step in the development of Canada’s top Para swimmers.

The 14-member 2023 Para swimming team has no Paralympic Games experience and only five have participated at a previous Parapan Am Games.

But a peek at the 2019 13-member squad shows the incredible improvement members of that team have made since those Games in Lima.

Canada fields strong Para cycling team for Parapan American Games

The eight members on Canada’s Para cycling team were all at the 2023 World Championships this past August in Glasgow, Scotland. None of them were at the 2019 Parapan Am Games.

But don’t let that stat deceive you. Those eight riders combined for 10 medals on the track and the road at the Glasgow worlds. In 2019, Canada sent a developmental team to the Parapan Ams, but this year is sending its top riders to the Santiago Games set for November 17-26.

Lance Cryderman turns back time in return to boccia

This past weekend, most Canadians turned back the clock one hour. Lance Cryderman has turned his back 23 years.

The 42-year-old from Sudbury, Ont. is part of Canada’s nine-member boccia team that will compete at the Parapan American Games November 17-26 in Santiago, Chile. Cryderman, who retired a year after competing at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games to pursue his education, actually decided to return to the sport in 2017.

TORONTO – Today Heidi Peter disseminates confidence and leadership as one of the key veterans of Canada’s women’s sitting volleyball team, which she has helped build from a fledging outfit to second place at the most recent world championships.

Before she joined the sitting team, Peters was an avid volleyball player for Barrhead Composite High School in Barrhead, Alta. However those years were not easy. She admitted she battled body image issues especially as she compared herself to teammates.

Canadian Para athletics competitors excited about Parapan Am Games

OTTAWA – He doesn’t know what to expect results-wise but for Anthony Bouchard the Parapan American Games will be another great opportunity to climb the international ranks as one of Canada’s best wheelchair racers.

Bouchard, a 31-year-old from Quebec City, is one of 18 members of Canada’s Parapan Am Para athletics team, Canada’s second-largest sports group among the 140 athletes for the Games (behind wheelchair basketball).

Patrick Anderson’s presence will be felt on and off the court at Parapan Am Games

OTTAWA – Patrick Anderson admits there are more aches and pains than ever these days in his long and storied career but for him it is well worth it as he helps develop the next generation of Canada’s wheelchair basketball players.

Even at 43, Anderson is still one of Canada’s key players leading into the Parapan American Games this month in Santiago, Chile. At the world championships earlier this year, Anderson averaged over 30 minutes a game (out of 40) in four of Canada’s seven games.
