SANTIAGO – When it comes to Para sport trailblazers in Canada, the name Yuka Chokyu rarely gets mentioned.

Yet there she was this week at the 2023 Parapan American Games, 56 years old, facing younger players and beating most of them in the Para badminton tournament. She’s not as quick as in her wheelchair tennis heyday but her anticipation game is better than ever, and she hits with pinpoint accuracy.

It’s do or die for Canada’s men’s wheelchair basketball team at Parapan Am Games

SANTIAGO – For Pat Anderson, Canada’s superstar wheelchair basketball player, it’s somewhat déjà vu all over again.

Back in 2011, Canada’s men’s team with Anderson lost its semifinal at the Parapan Ams in Guadalajara, Mexico. But it rebounded to beat the host country to win the bronze. That year, Canada already had its Paralympic berth in its pocket from the 2010 worlds.

In 2023 that’s not the case.

Canada-U.S. battle for gold in women’s wheelchair basketball

SANTIAGO – Arinn Young remembers the 2019 season as one of her favourites in her international wheelchair basketball career so far.

It was highlighted by a victory over the United States at the Parapan Ams in Lima and assured the Canadians a spot at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games. Fast forward four years later at the 2023 Parapan Am Games and the same scenario is set.
