SANTIAGO – Canadian Para sport shooter Doug Blessin, a three-time Paralympian, said it was tough to finish fourth at the Parapan Am Games Tuesday but it wasn’t nearly as tough as enduring the stomach flu over the past few days.
Brice Parker pays his dues to be on Canada’s men’s goalball team
SANTIAGO – Brice Parker of London, Ont. started playing goalball at age 11 and had to pay his dues to crack the veteran line-up on the men’s national goalball team.
But there he was on the floor Monday playing in a crucial situation during the final minute of Canada’s 5-4 loss to Argentina in preliminary round action at the 2023 Parapan American Games. The winner of the tournament gets a ticket to the 2024 Paralympic Games.

SANTIAGO – Thanks to a bronze medal from Para swimmer Jordan Tucker, Canada added to its podium total at the Santiago 2023 Parapan Am Games on Monday. Canadian athletes also reached semifinals in boccia and Para archery, with more round-robin games played across wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, goalball, and CP Football.

SANTIAGO – Mitch McIntyre of Vancouver, B.C. advanced to the quarterfinals in wheelchair tennis quad singles Monday at the 2023 Parapan American Games.
Also moving into the final eight were Thomas Venos of Anmore, B.C. and Barry Henderson of Mission, B.C. in men’s doubles.
Para archer Kyle Tremblay advances to bronze medal match at Parapan American Games
SANTIAGO – Kyle Tremblay of Deep River, Ont. will aim for bronze in the men’s compound open event in Para archery at the 2023 Parapan American Games.
Tremblay’s performance on Monday also assured Canada a quota spot for the men’s compound open for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, which was one of his big targets in Santiago.

SANTIAGO – Alexandre Hayward of Quispamsis, N.B. and Nathan Clement of West Vancouver each won gold in their respective road time trials Sunday as Para cycling action got underway at the 2023 Parapan American Games.
Mike Sametz of Calgary and Charles Moreau of Victoriaville, Que. made it a four-medal day for Canada, each adding a bronze.
Desiree Isaac-Pictou hopes to inspire more Indigenous people to get involved in sport
SANTIAGO – She’s only 23 years old but Desiree Isaac-Pictou knows the stories about past Indigenous athletes who went on to represent Canada on the international stage. Now she hopes to etch her name with those legends starting with the 2023 Parapan American Games.
