Gail Hamamoto is the Executive Director of BC Wheelchair Sports Association, previously serving as the Director of Sport Development for the association from 1998 to 2012. From 2007 to 2015 Gail was the Chair of the Canadian Wheelchair Rugby Management Committee under the Canadian Wheelchair Sports Association, and is currently the Chair of CWSA’s Competition Committee. Gail was Co-Chair of the Organizing Committee for the 2010 World Wheelchair Rugby Championships at the Richmond Olympic Oval, and chairs the Canada Cup International Wheelchair Rugby Tournament held every two years.
Gail was elected to the Canadian Paralympic Committee Board of Directors as the Director of Paralympic Development in 2009, and has been a member of the Canadian Paralympic Committee's Paralympic Development Committee since 2005. Gail was re-elected as a Director of the CPC in 2013, and currently co-Chairs the Paralympic Development Committee and the High Performance and Games Committee. Gail attended the 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 Paralympic Games as a representative of the sport of wheelchair rugby, and the 2010 Paralympic Games as a representative of the Canadian Paralympic Committee.
Gail has organized multiple national and international events focused on creating legacies in the sport community, including increased awareness, schools programs, equipment, communications and sport development.
Gail's involvement as an athlete, coach, official, volunteer and sport administrator spans more than 25 years of professional experience, including working with and serving on Boards, strategic planning and governance, sport technical decision making, multisport Games and government relations.
