Jana Murphy

After taking a year off swimming in order to heal a shoulder injury, Jana Murphy returned with a vengeance in 2011 to land a spot on the Canadian team for the 2011 Parapanan American Games and a year later for the 2012 Paralympic Games.

At the 2011 Parapan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico – her first major international event – Murphy medalled in all three of her events, winning silver medals in the 100m backstroke and 100m breaststroke and bronze in the 200m freestyle.

She is currently coached by Gord Veldman and Rick Say.

Murphy started swimming at age six and she was immersed in several sports as a youngster before focusing primarily on a swimming career. She swims in the S14 category for athletes with an intellectual disability.
