Karen Brain

Karen Brain has her sights set on winning double gold medals at the 2008 Paralympic Summer
Games. 

She followed her sister into riding, which she began at eight. By age ten, she was competing. She
first competed for Canada in able-bodied events as part of the three-day eventing team, and her
first major Games were the 1998 world championships. 

She has been featured on the cover of rider magazines, including Horse & Country and Horse
Sport. Her biography, Double Take: Karen Brain’s Olympic Journey, written by Nikki Tate, was
published in October 2007. 

She has a PHD in Equestrianism, and now trains full-time. Her earliest sporting memory is of her
horse dragging her through prickly bushes.
