Dalton Boon

Dalton Boon took a big step towards achieving his dream to compete at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games  by qualifying for the 2015 Toronto Parapan Am Games team. Boon earned his way onto the team with a victory in the S14 200-m freestyle at the Speedo Can Am Para-swimming Championships.

Boon produced a superb performance at the 2014 Pan Pacific Para-swimming Championships. Boon marched three times to the podium in Pasadena, Calif., to collect silver in the 200-m freestyle and bronze in the 100-m freestyle and 50-m freestyle. The Can Am Championships in March 2014 were the qualifying event for the Para Pan Pacs. One of the highlights for Boon was breaking the Canadian record in the S14 200-m freestyle.

In 2013 at the Can Am Championships in Edmonton, Boon lowered the national mark in the 50-m and 100-m freestyle and collected five medals, including two gold, at the Canada Games in Sherbrooke, Que.

In 2011, he was a member of the Canadian team at the Parapan American Games in Guadalajara at age 17 and he reached three finals.

Boon’s biggest influence is his sister Niqua because she excelled in several sports. Rick Hansen is also a big inspiration for Boon. In fact, Boon ran the last leg with Rick Hansen on his 25th anniversary of the Man in Motion tour.
