Sit-skier Alex Cairns was named to the Canadian Para Alpine Ski Team for the 2016-17  season. He competed at his first Paralympic Winter Games in 2018. Born with Spina Bifida, Cairns began skiing in 2007 at the age of 17 in Whistler, BC. During the 2014-15 season, he came 16th in the giant slalom at the World Championships. In the 2015-16 season, at the World Cup Finals, he placed 10th and 11th in the giant slalom and 11th in the downhill.
