Athletes preparing for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will benefit from an additional $500,000 to be invested by the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) through Own the Podium (OTP) to directly support athlete goals.

This will include funds for training, competitions, performance sciences, research and innovation, as well as coaching and technical leaders.

In 2023, $300,000 will be invested to support athletes working to qualify for Paris through the Enhanced Excellence program. The remaining $200,000 will be invested in 2023-24 to give enhanced support for those athletes qualified for Paris.

These funds represent the first time since 2012 direct new investment has been made from CPC through OTP Enhanced Excellence funding for summer sports, and will be added on top of the current Enhanced Excellence support.

“We are very pleased to be able to invest these funds into Paris 2024 in order to increase support towards athletes, their well-being and their performance,” said Karen O’Neill, CEO, Canadian Paralympic Committee. “Paralympic athletes are at the heart of our system, and this extra funding will make a huge difference in their daily training environment, preparation, and overall performance and support for Paris.”
