Ottawa, October 31, 2018 – At a meeting of Calgary City Council on Wednesday, a motion to effectively end the Calgary 2026 bid was voted down. The bid process will continue as planned with the next step being a public plebiscite on November 13, 2018, where the people of Calgary will have their chance to voice their opinion on hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

STATEMENT FROM MARC-ANDRÉ FABIEN, PRESIDENT, CANADIAN PARALYMPIC COMMITTEE:

“We are very pleased by the decision to continue with the bid to host the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Calgary, and look forward to the next step in the bid process.

We are excited about the opportunity to bring another Olympic and Paralympic Games to Canada and welcome the world’s best athletes to the great city of Calgary. A home Games would be an unprecedented opportunity to promote accessibility and inclusion across Canada and showcase the feats of our Canadian athletes on the largest platform possible.

We want to personally thank each and every one who believes in the transformative power that sport can bring to our communities and our country, and who are working so hard to prepare this bid. We believe in the work being done by Calgary 2026 and are grateful for the support of all levels of government.”
