Jim is President and CEO of Tennant and Guild Investments, a private company focused on making investments in, and providing strategic counsel to businesses across a number of industries. Prior to founding Tennant and Guild, Jim, who retired from Royal Bank of Canada in 2012 after 17 years, held a number of senior executive roles in the financial services industry, including head of the RBC's Canadian retail, commercial banking and wealth management businesses. Most recently, he was head of International Banking and Insurance for RBC. From 2000 until 2012, he also served as a member of the bank’s group executive which is responsible for setting the overall strategic direction of RBC.
Prior to joining RBC, Jim spent 19 years with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, most recently as chief operating officer for the company’s Canadian operations.
Jim has held numerous professional leadership roles including Chair of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Chair of the Canadian Bankers Association.
In addition to his professional activities, Jim has been active in the community for many years, including Director of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, Chairman of Ottawa Ronald McDonald House, and Campaign Chair for the United Way of Peel Region. His community service has been recognized receiving both the Queen's Golden Jubilee and Diamond Jubilee medals for community service.
Jim is currently a member of the board of directors of Oakville Enterprises Corporation and Eirsen Health and is a past board member of the Canadian Paralympic Committee. He is Chair of the U.S. Advisory Board for the Bingham Group and Chair of the Advisory Board for DWG Performance.
Jim has an MBA from Queen's University. He is married and has four children and, in his spare time, enjoys travel, golfing and boating
