TORONTO, Sept. 19, 2014 – Athletes in para-alpine skiing, para-Nordic skiing and wheelchair curling took centre stage today as stars of the Sochi 2014 Canadian Paralympic Team and the broader Canadian Paralympic movement were fêted at the 2014 Canadian Paralympic Sport Awards ceremony.

Paralympians race to silver and bronze on rain-soaked track in Glasgow

Canada’s Paralympians contributed to the Canadian athletics team’s medal tally Thursday night at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, winning silver and bronze medals in the 1500-metre wheelchair races.

Under pouring rain and heavy humidity, Diane Roy (Sherbooke, Que.) aggressively led the women’s race the entire way until edged at the finish line by Australian Angela Ballard, who finished in 3:59.20.

Canada’s Para-Nordic Ski Team wrapped up the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in thrilling fashion with a double-gold performance in cross-country skiing on Sunday.

In two of the most challenging classifications, Chris Klebl, of Canmore, Alta., shocked the world to win the men’s 10-kilometre sit-ski race, while Brian McKeever won his third gold medal of the week in the visually impaired category.

Canada wins gold in wheelchair curling at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games

Sochi, Russia, March 15, 2014 – Canada won an unprecedented third consecutive gold medal in wheelchair curling today at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Games, beating Russia 8-3 in the final this afternoon after beating China 5-4 in the semi-finals in the morning.
