Simon Richard

Simon Richard will make his major Games debut at the Toronto Parapan American Games. His goal is to help Canada win the gold medal and qualify for the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio.

He is off to a good start in 2015. Richard helped Nova Scotia win the gold medal at the national goalball championships and was named the tournament MVP.

Richard is in a fun race with his mother Nicole Leblanc-Richard on who will get to an Olympics/Paralympics first. She is an international level figure skating judge and is also hoping to be named as an official at an Olympic Games.

Richard started playing goalball at age nine but was already a sport enthusiast as a youngster being involved in hockey, golf, and soccer.  But he loved goalball immediately because he could stop the ball in the butterfly position like a hockey goaltender. His biggest heroes are NHL stars Raymond Bourque and Sidney Crosby for their leadership and motivation.
