Shacarra Orr

Shacarra Orr

On October 1, 2011 at age 15, a car accident left Shacarra Orr with a permanent disability in her right arm.

Before the accident, Orr played volleyball at the high school and club level. She returned to the able-bodied game after the accident but despite all the hard work in physiotherapy it was difficult to reach her previous skill level. It was at a tournament she was noticed by sitting volleyball coach Paul Shearme and he recommended she give the sitting version a try.

There are already some obvious adjustments you need to make to play the sitting version of the game but on top of that Orr learned to serve and pass as a left-handed player. She earned a spot as a setter on Team Canada in 2013.

“My goal when I started was to play for a university team and now I’m on Team Canada, it is just unbelievable,” she said.
