At the Madeira 2022 World Para Swimming Championships, Tyson MacDonald was a member of the mixed 4×100-m freestyle S14 relay that placed fourth and the mixed 4×100-m medley S14 relay that placed fifth. Both relays broke Canadian records.
He sparkled at his first major Games, the 2019 Parapan Ams in Lima. MacDonald won one gold, one silver, and one bronze.
He has been working his way through the swimming rankings since he began swimming competitively at the age of eight, including provincial championships and national championships.
At the 2017 Canada Games in Winnipeg, MacDonald made headlines when he gave his bronze medal earned in the 100m butterfly to another competitor who had lost a bronze because of a technical glitch in a previous race.
