What Canada did Thursday at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Games

SOCHI, RUSSIA, March 13, 2014 –Thursday competition was highlighted by four-time Paralympian alpine skier Chris Williamson, guided by Nick Brush, who overcome a season of injury to win a remarkable bronze in the men’s visually-impaired slalom race – for his fourth career Paralympic medal.

What Canada Did on Thursday at the Sochi 2014 Winter Paralympic Games:


Para-Nordic skiing and biathlon had the day off on Thursday. The final biathlon competition of the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games will take place at the Laura Nordic Stadium on Friday.


After downing Slovakia decisively with a score of 16-0, Canada went on to lose to last place Finland by a score of 12-1. Canada finishes the week in second place behind Russia and will face China in the semi-finals on Saturday at 9:30.


In the men’s slalom, Chris Williamson (Toronto, Ont.), guided by Nick Brush (Invermere, B.C.), was the top-placing Canadian, winning bronze in the men's visually impaired category with a time of one minute, 48.61 seconds. Mac Marcoux (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.), guided by Robin Fémy (Mont-Tremblant, Que.) did not finish. In the men's standing category, Matt Hallat (Coquitlam, B.C.) was sixth with a time of 1:43.81. Kirk Schornstein (Spruce Grove, Alta) was 16th (1:54.05), and Braydon Luscombe (Duncan, B.C.) did not finish. In the men's sitting division, Josh Dueck (Kimblerley, B.C.), Caleb Brousseau (Terrace, B.C.) and Kurt Oatway (Calgary, Alta.) did not finish.


Canada’s sledge hockey team lost 3-0 to the United States in the semifinal on Thursday. The team will face Norway on Saturday at 1 p.m. for the bronze medal.


The para-snowboard team had official training today and will race Friday, March 14 starting at 9:30 a.m.
