September 6, 2017

Canada opened the Americas Championships wheelchair rugby tournament on Tuesday September 5, 2017 with decisive victories over Chile and Paraguay.

In their opening game, the Canadians won 64-25 and trounced the host country 65-18 in the nightcap. The U.S. and Colombia also won their opening two matches. The Canadians face Colombia on Wednesday morning at 10:45 a.m. (EDT) followed by a match against Brazil at 2:15 p.m.

‘’We’ve got a lot of new guys on our team so a lot of them have not played the South Americans so it’ll be exciting for them to play some different competition,’’ said two-time Paralympic Trevor Hirschfield, just prior to the start of the tournament.

The top-four qualify for the 2018 World Championships.
