Rivard on fast track to Rio

December 16, 2015

Aurélie Rivard delivered great performances in 2015 and she is hungry for more.  The 19-year-old rising star was named on November 25 the Team Aquatic Supplies Female Para-swimmer of the Year at the Big Splash Awards by Swimming Canada.

It’s the second straight award for Rivard, who became a double world champion and set a world record in 2015. But she wants to make an even bigger splash in 2016 with the Rio Paralympic Games on the horizon.

Rivard won the S10 50-m and 400-m freestyle at the IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. She then went on to dominate the Parapan Am Games in Toronto, winning a record seven medals, including six gold. Rivard set six Parapan Am Games marks, two Americas records, and a new world best (59.17) in the S10 100-m freestyle.

Rivard’s coach France Latendresse was named Coach of the Year (female para-swimmer).
