Canadian women win gold, men add bronze at IBSA Goalball American Championships

SAO PAULO – Led by Amy Burk’s tournament leading 18 goals, Canada won the gold medal in women’s competition this past weekend at the IBSA Goalball American Championships. The Canadian men added a bronze.

Both the men’s and women’s teams qualify for next year’s world championships with their medal performances.

In the women’s final, Canada defeated Brazil 6-4 in the championship game. The victory capped a perfect 7-0 record for the Canadian women.

Canada took bronze in the men's championships thanks to a 6-3 victory over Argentina. Brazil defeated the USA 8-3 for the gold.

Brendan Gaulin was Canada’s top scorer in men’s competition and second overall with 17 goals.
