Canada remains undefeated at Americas Championships wheelchair rugby tournament

ASUNCION, Paraguay – Canada is a perfect 4-0 at the Americas Championships wheelchair rugby tournament.

After two easy wins on Wednesday, the Canadians defeated Colombia 58-41 and Brazil 50-45 to set up a clash for top spot in the round robin against the USA on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. (EDT). Canada then faces Argentina later Thursday at 5:45 p.m.

Canada and the U.S. are tied for top spot in the round robin with Colombia third at 2-2, Brazil and Argentina 1-2 and Chile and Paraguay 0-3. The top-four in the tournament qualify for next year’s world championships.

Ben Delaney stars in Para ice hockey selection camp game

CALGARY – Ben Delaney (Ottawa, Ont.) scored a pair of goals, both on special teams, and Canada White hung on for a 3-2 win over Canada Red on Wednesday night at Canada’s National Sledge Team selection camp.

Goaltending dominated the opening 20 minutes, with White netminder Dominic Larocque (Quebec City, Que.) turning aside all 11 shots he faced, while Red counterpart Corbin Watson (Kingsville, Ont.) made five saves of his own to keep the game scoreless.

Both teams see the ice next against South Korea on Thursday.

Hockey Canada has invited 29 players to attend its September Showcase and selection camp at the Markin MacPhail Centre, Sept. 2-9, 2017.

A 20-player roster will be selected at the conclusion of the September Showcase and the evaluation process will continue as the roster is pared down to the 17 players who will be selected to go for gold for their country at the Paralympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, next March.
