Athlete alumni celebration set to take place during the 2017 Men’s U23 World Wheelchair Basketball Championship in Toronto

Canadian Paralympic athletes of all eras, along with wheelchair basketball national team alumni, are invited to join together, celebrate our history and cheer on Team Canada at a reception on Saturday, June 10 during the 2017 Men’s U23 World Wheelchair Basketball Championship in Toronto.

The reception is co-hosted by the Canadian Paralympic Committee and Wheelchair Basketball Canada. Athlete alumni are invited to come out and reconnect with teammates, meet other athletes and watch Canada take on Iran. Light refreshments will be served.

Special guests will include members of the Canadian team that won gold at the inaugural world wheelchair basketball championship for junior men in 1997 in Toronto.

About the Men’s U23 World Wheelchair Basketball Championship

World-class athletes representing 12 nations, including host Canada, will converge at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in downtown Toronto from June 8-16, 2017 for the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) Men’s U23 World Wheelchair Basketball Championship.

The 2017 Men’s U23 World Championship marks the 20-year anniversary since Canada hosted and won gold at the inaugural world championship for junior men in 1997 in Toronto. Team Canada also won gold at the world championship for junior men 2001. Most recently, Canada placed sixth at the last world championship for junior men in 2013.
