14 Memories for 2014: Gold on repeat

December 18, 2014

Erik Carleton (guide) and Brian McKeever

Brian McKeever of Canmore, Alta., retained his position as the top visually impaired cross country skier in the world in 2014. The highlight was the Sochi Paralympic Games where he collected gold medals in the 20 kilometre, 10 kilometre and one kilometre sprint- as he did in Vancouver 2010 - with his guides Erik Carleton and Graham Nishikawa. His victory in the one kilometre was particularly memorable as he overcame a fall at the start and overtook the leader on the final bend to win it.

This month, join us in revisiting memorable moments for Canadian Paralympic sport in 2014. The Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games and the Commonwealth Games were the high profile events for Canadian para-athletes in 2014. But as is the case with their able-bodied counterparts, Canada’s high performance athletes with a disability travelled around the world to various competitions including World Cups and world championships and enjoyed plenty of success.
