Morgan Bird

Morgan Bird continues to establish herself as a solid national team member in 2015. She won two silver medals at the Can-Am Championships to guarantee herself a roster spot on Team Canada for the IPC World Championships and the 2015 Parapan American Games in Toronto.

She made her international breakthrough at the 2013 IPC World Championships in Montreal. She competed in five events in the S8 category, earning two silver medals and reaching the finals in the other three. Bird took second in the 50-m freestyle and helped Canada to a surprise runner-up finish in the 4x100 freestyle relay. She was also fourth in the 100-m freestyle, fifth in the 400-m freestyle and sixth in the 100-m butterfly. With the exception of the 400-m free, all were Canadian record times.

Bird showed her performances at the world championships were no fluke as she notched two more individual medals at the 2014 Pan Pacific Para-swimming Championships in Pasadena, Calif. Bird collected a silver in the S8 50-m freestyle and bronze in the 100-m freestyle. Bird was one of three para-swimmers to represent Canada at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and came fourth in the women’s S8 100-m freestyle.

Bird was part of Canada’s impressive youth movement at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Only 19 and making her Games debut, she reached finals in three of her four individual events including a fourth-place finish in the 400-metre freestyle. She was also sixth in the 100-m freestyle and eighth in the 50-m freestyle.
