Matthieu Hébert

Matthieu Hébert will make his major Games debut in Rio. Hébert started fencing as a youngster and at age 13 he suffered an injury which caused one leg to be shorter than the other. Incredibly he decided to return to the sport less than three years ago, first in able-bodied. It was wheelchair fencing national coach Iulian Badea who discovered Hébert had a disability and suggested he try the wheelchair version.
