Masoud Mojtahed

Masoud Mojtahed is headed to his fourth Parapan American Games and once again he is considered a top medal contender. Mojtahed earned bronze medals in singles and team in 2003, silver in team in 2007 and a silver in doubles in 2011 with Ian Kent.

Mojtahed, diagnosed with polio at age one, discovered table tennis while taking swimming lessons at a private club growing up in Tehran, Iran. He used to watch others play the sport at the club and found it very entertaining; eventually, he started to play too. After practicing for a few years, he began playing competitively in the youth category at age 12. He has been a member of the Canadian national team since 2005.

Mojtahed credits sport for keeping him healthy and active and adds being a table tennis player has improved his overall health. His ultimate goal is to win Canada’s first Paralympic medal in the sport.

Mojtahed was born in Iran and has lived in Vancouver and Montreal. He currently resides in Austin, Texax, trains with the Austin Table Tennis Club and works for Intel as the performance benchmarking lead.
