For Mario Delisle, the head coach of the Canadian national boccia team, boccia is characterized by complexity and technicality. Consistency within the game, he suggests, requires extensive time commitment, practice and trial and error. Delisle’s involvement in the sport spans over 20 years, ranging from a position as a physical educator involved in the initiation of boccia clubs across the province of Quebec to local, provincial and national-level coaching roles.
As head coach, Delisle takes great pride in the accomplishments of Canadian boccia athletes. Wins on home turf, the success of athletes who are new to the sport and boccia veterans on the international stage are all moments which make his position particularly meaningful.
Outside of coaching, Delisle is a life-long sport enthusiast, participating in skiing, ice hockey and tennis.
