David Hugill first tried snowboarding on a family ski trip to Marmot Basin in Jasper National Park in 1987 and has been hooked ever since.
He competed on FIS World Cup; ISF Tour and various free ride events in the 1990s.When he retired from competition, he started one of the first organized snowboard programs in Canada for youth from Northern Alberta wanting to compete in ASA Alberta Snowboard Association Series events. He also got involved in the development of the Canadian Snowboard Coaching Program and helped progress the Canadian Snowboard Federation to formalize its practices.
Hugill went on to coach the Canadian Development Team, the B.C. Snowboard Team and a number of development through to elite level riders competing on the FIS World Cup, Jr. World Championships, FIS World Championships and the Olympic Winter Games.
He currently owns and works at Reign Snowboarding, a web based privately operated high-performance snowboard cross team catering to riders looking to compete on the Continental and World Cup stage and works with Tyler Mosher and the Canadian para-snowboarding team wherever he can.
He was on the 2014 Canadian Paralympic team coaching staff as technical coach for para-snowboard.
