Nikolas Tolgyesi

NikTolgyesi, who had two strokes at age eight which left him paralyzed on the right side of his body, is looking to build on a strong summer of competition and training to deliver his best ever performances at the Parapan American Games in Mexico. He entered the Can Am Championships in Gatineau, Que., in top condition and with a polished technique to produce a five gold medal performance, all in best time, and qualified for the Games in the S6 50 butterfly beating the standard by 10 seconds.

As a youngster, Tolgyesi dabbled in several sports until he suffered his setback. He started swimming after his surgery while the family was still in Aurora but initially didn’t like it. When the family moved to Kingston in 2008, where his father started an insurance business, he joined the Vicki Keith program at the YMCA. Motivated and determined under Keith’s guidance and a spirited team atmosphere, he thrived in a short period of time.

He currently attends Holy Cross Secondary School and enjoys drumming, bowling and playing squash in his free time.
