Danielle Kisser

Danielle Kisser heads to the Parapan Am Games after undergoing surgery in early September for a non swimming-related issue. She says she has made a full recovery and is ready to continue what has been a highly successful 2011 season so far. She won three gold and two silver medals at the Canada West Summer Games and added two more victories at the Can Am Championships. She qualified for the ParapanAms in the 100 breaststroke and the 400 freestyle.

The 15-year-old student at North Delta's Burnsview Secondary also played softball and soccer for years and last fall, she was a member of her school’s Grade 8 basketball team. That's a full slate of activities for any teenager, let alone Kisser, who was born with achondroplasia (a common form of dwarfism).

She joined the Delta Sungod Swim Club's Para-swimming program two years ago and was immediately smitten with the sport. She qualified for the Para-swimming nationals (one of two such meets each year, one in the U.S. and one in Canada) in her first year and has been to three such meets since.
