Athlete Classification Support Program

The Canadian Paralympic Committee is putting out a call to support national sport organisations (NSO) capacity to classify athletes.  This program is for activities in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017 for athletes competing in Rio 2016 or on track to compete at Pyeongchang 2018.

Support Program Criteria

The CPC will fund either an individual athlete to attend international classification or the hosting of a two or more panel classification evaluation at an event held by the NSO in Canada.

Option 1

The CPC will consider supporting an individual athlete’s out of country classification if no other opportunity for classification exists in Canada. One support personnel will also be supported to attend classification with the athlete.

The closest available opportunity will always be prioritized (i.e USA over Europe or other Continents). This will be supported only with appropriate evidence from the NSO and proof that no international classification opportunities are available in Canada within a two-year period.

Option 2

NSO may request support from the CPC to bring classifiers to a national or international competition. This event must be hosted by the NSO with a minimum of two panels to be eligible.  The competition must be open to a majority of Canadian athletes (ex: national championships, world cup event).

If the NSO is requesting support for international classifiers, proof of approval must be provided by the appropriate IF to host the classification evaluation.

How to Apply

Interest NSOs must complete this application form  with supporting documentation and return to emawdsley@paralympic.ca no later than April 15th, 2016 by 5pm EST. All applications must be submitted electronically.
